New Exhibition at the DesBrisay Museum –Ordinary States
The DesBrisay Museum is stepping out of it’s comfort zone with a brand new exhibition opening in the South Shore of Nova Scotia.
Raw, unfiltered, and full of desire, Ordinary States deals with themes of death, isolation, suicide, trauma, paralyzing emotions, violence, medical surgeries, disability, love, desire, and belonging. Using self-portrait photography, poetry, and philosophy, ivan deconstructs binaries and embrace imperfections in a journey of revolutionary re- creation.
ivan beck is a self-taught visual-literary research artist living in rural M’ikmaw’ki. Using self-portrait photography, prose, and academic research methods, ivan philosophizes from a visceral level making connections between trauma, violence, systems of domination and the connections that are possible when we remain open to failure. A neuroqueer PhD candidate, ivan uses artistic self-expression to make sense of eternally ineffable ephemeral realities of gendered and sexual violence. ivan beck is a self-taught visual-literary research artist living in rural M’ikmaw’ki.

Bouncy castles, imagination playground equipment and yard games. Fund for the entire family. Open to 2SLGBTQIA+ Families and Allies.

Are you looking for a low-key social space for 2SLGBTQIA+ folks? Look no further!
All identities, ages, abilities, and allies are welcome!

Bring your own book to enjoy with a coffee, or loan one of the books available to you! Coffee will be free, other beverages available to purchase.

During this event we will encourage folks to be around each other in a low-sensory capacity, reading (or listening) to a book.
