Raw, unfiltered, and full of desire, Ordinary States deals with themes of death, isolation, suicide, trauma, paralyzing emotions, violence, medical surgeries, disability, love, desire, and belonging. Using self-portrait photography, poetry, and philosophy, ivan deconstructs binaries and embrace imperfections in a journey of revolutionary re- creation.
ivan beck is a self-taught visual-literary research artist living in rural M’ikmaw’ki. Using self-portrait photography, prose, and academic research methods, ivan philosophizes from a visceral level making connections between trauma, violence, systems of domination and the connections that are possible when we remain open to failure.
